The piece emerged from a site-specific study of the colonial history of my childhood home in Toronto.
The Toronto Purchase, Treaty No. 13, is a now well known document of the colonial project of "negotiating" land surrender between the Crown and First Nations, the Mississaugas of New Credit, signed in 1787 and re-edited and signed in 1805. The treaty document is an example of colonial procedure of dispossessing First Nations of their traditional territory in the guise of legal procedure.
