Visiting Hours

The concept of “visiting” an image was the exhibition’s the central theme. I approached six artists—each with an investment in movement across very different practices—and asked to “visit” an image of their work.
This initially entailed negotiating with fellow artists how I might be a “guest” in their work. The relationship building involved a close reading of the practices and commitments of the images they produced. Artists contributed an image from their oeuvre, and I choreographed a performative way to visit the image for myself and for audience.

Six performers and I became hosts, we guided the gallery visitor through the image-experiences with instructions of how to look/ touch/ listen. These conceptual and performative visits explore how embodied practices can trouble the clear boundaries of where an image ends and a performance begins.
