Visiting Hours
Installation: 17 x 24 c-print, straps
Image visited:
lo bil, The Clearing (2014) a performance documented by Henry Chan.
lo bil’s durational performance The Clearing (2014) took place over eight hours in a room with 30 years of personal writing (journals, papers, research materials).
The image I am visiting features the messy room, filled with loose papers and overturned boxes. In order to visit this work, the image is mounted onto a frame with straps, and worn by the performer. It moves as the performer moves, becoming plane, surface, body, bed, hat, pillow, and mask.
Referencing with words depicted in bil’s peformance that are written backwards, the spectator is asked to write their observations backwards. The installation acquires a pile of black papers with these observations.
